Coaching at MIFI Wealth

MIFI Wealth is an industry leader in joining mindfulness with financial expertise to lower suffering and empower clients. We are excited to add coaching services to further expand our offerings and fulfill our purpose.

What is coaching?

Coaching is a broad term. At the most basic level, coaching refers to a relationship where one person is solely focused on the growth and development of another. Different than therapy or consulting, coaching focuses on helping people make something specific happen in their lives. Coaching helps people define the future they want to create, assess their current situation, and develop an action plan for achieving their goals.

Why is coaching helpful?

Much like mindfulness practice, coaching is both very simple and not always easy. While achieving our goals can sometimes be as simple as getting organized and following through, most of the change we seek requires us to shift patterns and habits of thinking and acting. We created our habits for our survival, and they were generally successful. Therefore changing them will feel dangerous. This is why most habit change efforts fail. A skilled coach can be an asset in helping someone understand and respond in new ways that are more conducive to their goals.

How does coaching function?

In a typical coaching relationship, your coach guides you through three essential phases:

  • Discovery
  • Creating an Individual Development Plan, and
  • Iterative progress reviews.

During the discovery phase, your coach helps you uncover your goals and desired future. Your coaching goals could range from a specific project like starting a venture, or be related to a general capacity like delegating more. The discovery phase also involves your coach helping you examining your current situation in detail. Your coach asks questions about all the current external factors that contribute to the success or obscure your ability to achieve your goals. Your coach also asks you about all your habits of thinking and acting that are currently contributing to the current situation.

After a detailed look at your goals and your situation, your coach will help you design a plan of action, called an Individual Development Plan. This plan includes clear commitments that are directly aligned with your goals.
Finally, in the third phase, your coach and you regularly meet to reflect on the experience of implementing the Individual Development Plan, known as field work. These meetings help you establish and strengthen new ways of being and gain traction in pursuit of your goals.

Coaching skill set and mindset

Coaches help you self-actualize and achieve your goals through honing the following coaching skills:

  • Being an unbiased investigator: asks artful questions about your situation, desired outcome, and possible actions
  • Being an accountability partner: designs mutual accountability, clear agreements, and follows up
  • Being a brave reflector: provides feedback and encourages your self-awareness
  • Being a wise planner: encourages pragmatic action, and jointly designs fieldwork
  • Being a subject expert: provides you with distinctions, language, and new information
  • Being a process guide: orients you to the coaching process

These skills are vital to any formal coaching relationship. At MIFI we believe attention to coaching skills makes us better financial advisors and service providers. By familiarizing ourselves with the coaching mindset, we are paying attention to the overall well-being of our clients, and not just providing technical information. Coaching skills come into play across our existing services including planning, advising, and family office solutions.

Coaching services at MIFI Wealth

For both existing clients and individuals, we have designed an introductory MIFI Coaching package consisting of three one-hour sessions. We believe anyone and everyone will benefit from this package. These sessions introduce and deepen Mindful Finance skills, and include My Money Mandala results, our Values and Goals exercises, and the creation of an Individual Development Plan. The MIFI Coaching package is complete as a stand-alone experience. If desired, there can be a roll over into a full cycle of one-on-one coaching.

We understand that full engagement in a coaching process is not for everyone, and is always based on the expressed interest of the client. If you are interested in further MIFI coaching, we have several ways for you to engage.
For those who want to engage with coaching further, we offer personalized one-on-one coaching sessions which encompass the entire arch of the coaching process including discovery, developing an action plan, and iterative progress reviews. These sessions are held approximately twice a month, each lasting 1.5 hours, and are reviewed for effectiveness at three-month intervals.

Additionally, we are particularly excited to offer specialized coaching for young people (ages 12-30). Identifying interests, discovering purpose components, self-worth, and growing responsibility are just some of the potential areas served through coaching young people. These sessions are available either monthly or twice a month, each lasting 1 to 1.5 hours, and are reviewed for effectiveness every three months.

As Seen In

“Relating to our personal finances can be very destabilizing. Feelings of peace and confidence are often masked by obsession, uncertainty or fear. Most people have developed strong, habitual patterns with respect to their financial lives, including taxes. Mindfulness cuts through these patterns and can allow us to see money matters more clearly, and accomplish positive change.”
